The International General Certificate of Education (IGCSE)

Students in Years 10 and 11 (14 – 16 years) at Westwood International School take the IGCSE. This course provides a broad programme of study drawing from subjects in five areas: Languages, Humanities, Social Sciences, Mathematics, and the Creative, Technical and Vocational.

Within the curriculum there is a balanced mix of practical experience and theoretical knowledge. With a choice of core and extended papers in most subjects the IGCSE is suitable for students with different levels of ability.

The IGCSE is an internally-based, externally monitored curriculum allowing teaching to be placed in a localised context, making it relevant in different regions. It is also suitable for students whose first language may not be English. This is acknowledged throughout the examination process.
