Admissions

Westwood International School (WIS) is a private, non-profit, multi-cultural institution with an international curriculum taught in the English language fro Reception to Year 13.  Its primary purpose is to provide a quality education for the children of internationally-mobile families, and children of families living locally who seek and value an international education, within the financial resources available to the school.

All students who apply for admission in WIS must demonstrate through entrance assessments and/or previous school records that they can benefit from the educational programmes offered. This means that they must be able to operate academically, physically and behaviourally at a level where if additional support is needed it is either only for a limited duration or can be met mainly through in-class support.  Exceptions to this rule can be made at the discretion of the Principal where arrangements at total additional cost to parents are formally agreed.

All WIS students should also have reasonable expectation for meeting the school’s graduation requirements with appropriate English language skills. Therefore where a students eeking admission has English as a second language, enrollment will be dependent upon their ability to access the curriculum in line with this expectation.

Where such enrolments require an intensive or significant level of ESL support to fast track the student into mainstream classes, an additional fee as published by the school shall be charged.

To seek admission to Westwood International School you need to complete and provide for each child:

  1. An Application for Admissions Form
  2. Copies of school reports for the last two years (translated into English where appropriate)
  3. A copy of the birth certificate
  4. Two current passport-sized photographs
  5. Evidence of good financial standing from the previous school

If your child has a special or specific need please provide us with all the necessary documentation such as:

  1. Specialist Report (e.g. Occupational Therapist Reports, Psychological Reports and Doctors Evaluations etc.)
  2. Report and/or assessment from Special Needs Teacher of former School.

Where children have special needs, it is the responsibility of parents to fully disclose the nature and extent of that need and to provide all relevant documentary evidence to the Admissions Office. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of enrollment.

If a student has significant special needs that could be catered for by the provision of additional resources by the parent or sponsoring organization the school will endeavour to provide a suitable educational programme. Conditions may apply.

By applying for a place at Westwood International School parents authorize the school’s Admissions Office to contact the applicant’s previous schools to clarify questions relating to academic achievement, behaviour and special needs, and to confirm that the applicant was in good financial standing at the time of departure.

The school will determine the optimal placement for your child taking into account age appropriateness

Westwood International School Council has established a Consultative Group to help identify possible savings or extra income raising initiatives. Should such initiatives be implemented any fee reductions from this process will be credited to your account.

For families with three or more children, School Council has approved a fee reduction of 25% of the actual tuition fees to be paid for the third and subsequent children. This initiative applies for 2008. It will be referred to the Consultative Group for consideration as a recommendation to School Council for permanent inclusion in the fee structure for 2009 and beyond.
